AGENCY: Food Safety and Inspection Service, USDA.

ACTION: Proposed rule: Extension of comment period.

SUMMARY: Consistent with the memorandum of January 20, 2017, to the heads of executive departments and agencies from the Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff entitled ``Regulatory Freeze Pending Review,'' the Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is extending by 30 days the public comment period for this proposed rule, which was published on January 19, 2017.

DATES: Comments on the proposed rule published on January 19, 2017 (82 FR 7149) must be received on or before Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: Consistent with the memorandum of January 20, 2017, to the heads of executive departments and agencies from the Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff entitled ``Regulatory Freeze Pending Review,'' FSIS is extending by 30 days the public comment period of the proposed rule entitled ``Revision of Nutrition Facts Labels for Meat and Poultry Products and Updating Certain References Amounts Customarily Consumed'' that was published in the Federal Register on January 19, 2017, (82 FR 7149).

FSIS is proposing to amend the nutrition labeling requirements for meat (including fish of the order Siluriformes) and poultry products to better reflect the most recent scientific research and dietary recommendations, to improve the presentation of nutrition information to assist consumers in maintaining healthy dietary practices, and for consistency with recent regulatory changes finalized by the Food and Drug Administration.

Additional Public Notification

Public awareness of all segments of rulemaking and policy development is important. Consequently, FSIS will announce this Federal Register publication on-line through the FSIS Web page located at: http://www.fsis.usda.gov/federal-register.

FSIS also will make copies of this publication available through the FSIS Constituent Update, which is used to provide information regarding FSIS policies, procedures, regulations, Federal Register notices, FSIS public meetings, and other types of information that could affect or would be of interest to our constituents and stakeholders.
