AGENCY: National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), National Oceanic and

Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Commerce.

ACTION: Notice; receipt of application.

SUMMARY: Notice is hereby given that Jane Provancha, NASA, Ecological

Program, Kennedy Space Center, FL, 32899, has applied in due form for a permit to take green (Chelonia mydas), loggerhead (Caretta caretta), and Kemp's ridley (Lepidochelys kempii) sea turtles for purposes of scientific research.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The subject permit is requested under the authority of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (ESA; 16

U.S.C. 1531 et seq.) and the regulations governing the taking, importing, and exporting of endangered and threatened species (50 CFR parts 222-226).

The applicant proposes to continue to monitor the abundance and distribution of sea turtles in the waters of Mosquito Lagoon in Volusia and Brevard Counties, Florida. Up to 40 green, 40 loggerhead, and 1

Kemp's ridley sea turtles would be captured, flipper and PIT tagged, blood sampled and/or tissue biopsied, lavaged, and released annually.

Up to 12 green and 10 loggerhead turtles may be tracked using a sonic transmitter. The permit is requested for five years.
