The following applicants have applied for a permit to conduct certain activities with endangered species. This notice is provided pursuant to Section 10(c) of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (16 U.S.C. 1531, et seq.):

Applicant: Henry Doorly Zoo, Omaha, NE
The applicant requests a permit to import biological samples from radiated tortoise (Geochelone radiata) and angulated tortoise (Geochelone yniphora). The samples will be collected from both wild and captive populations on Madagascar for the purpose of scientific research on population genetics for the conservation of the species. This notice covers activities conducted by the applicant for a period of five years.

The applicant amends an initial request for a permit to import tissue samples and voucher specimens of wild giant Amazon river turtles (Podocnemis expansa) to include Yellow-spotted river turtles (Podocnemis unifilis) from Brazil for the purpose of scientific research. The original notification appeared in Federal Register Notice Vol. 64, No. 14. This notification covers activities conducted by the applicant over a five-year period.

Period of Activity: Up to 5 years, if issued.

Permit Type: Take for scientific research.
Name and Number of Animals: West Indian Manatee (Trichechus manatus).
Summary of Activity To Be Authorized: The applicant requests a permit to study the reactions of West Indian manatees to and possible impacts from controlled boat approaches, underwater acoustic projections of approaching boats, and narrow beam manatee alerting sounds.
Source of Marine Mammals: 50-100 wild manatees occurring in waters adjacent to Buzzard Island in Crystal River, Florida.
Period of Activity: Up to 5 years, if issued.
Concurrent with the publication of this notice in the Federal Register, the Office of Management Authority is forwarding copies of this application to the Marine Mammal Commission and the Committee of Scientific Advisors for their review.
